I wanted to clarify for myself today that the City of Hollywood DOES encourage private residents to buy a Business License/Occupational License for your home. You are not, however, allowed to utilize this for any purposes other than fax and phone. As an artist, I can buy the license, but I cannot create anything in the home that I hope to send to galleries to sell. I went over and over this with the person on the phone to be certain that this was the intent. I asked her if she ever made anything at home and she said, "No.". I asked her if she ever made pies or cooked and she said, "I don't have time."
I consider this to be fascist and I am looking for a higher level to voice my complaint. If anyone has any helpful feedback, please let me know. I have never heard of a city that encourages the purchase of tax licenses that cannot be utilized. They say you can't fight City Hall, but I'm thinking they are not Gods who dictate when I can make something in my house.
